ABOUT

STORY

Founded in 1991 by Peter Thomas of the BBC and Adrian Loader of FWO Bauch. The combination of knowledge and a life-long passion for music led to the production of PMC’s first product, the BB5-A, an active main studio monitor.

This design was snapped up by the BBC Maida Vale and Metropolis Mastering and remains the world’s reference, used by Prince, Stevie Wonder’s Wonderland Studio, Hospital HDTV Broadcast London and for renowned classical labels such as Decca and Harmonia Mundi.

Many of today’s movie themes have been crafted using PMC, from such eminent composers as Henry Jackman, Thomas Newman, Tyler Bates and John Debney. PMC are one of the very few companies who have been awarded an Emmy® for their contribution to recording excellence.

With film, it would be easier to list the blockbuster movies which did not use PMC during the process of music production and post! But titles include: Titanic, Mission Impossible, Captain Phillips, Pearl Harbor, Game of Thrones – TV, Iron Man 1& 2, Skyfall, Spiderman 1,2,3 and Pirates of the Caribbean and many many more.

PMC reigns supreme throughout the leading mastering houses, broadcasters and much of the professional world. We believe a good loudspeaker should be able to relay the purest intentions of the artist without colouration – The ideal solution for both studio & home.

OUR METICULOUS ATTENTION TO DETAIL

All PMC loudspeakers are designed and hand-built in the U.K. using individual components that are matched to our reference model; this includes the structural integrity of every cabinet and the testing and recording of each component. This guarantees it will be within our strict tolerances and ensures your purchase sounds identical to the original design .Each completed loudspeaker then undergoes a set of objective and subjective measurements.

Computers don’t tell the full story. As well as a full frequency analysis, we listen to each speaker we make and run a benchmark BBC speech and music test on every single one.

HISTORY

A HISTORY OF PMC

Since 1991 we have come to monopolise the pinnacle of the world’s music and movie composing, recording, mixing and mastering.

And to recreate the awe-inspiring realism and stunning dynamics of a piece of music or blockbuster movie in the home, there is no better brand of loudspeaker than the ones used to make them. We would like to share a selection of milestones from over three decades of making music, from studio to home.

THE BEGINNING- 1990

Peter Thomas (Manager of BBC Music Studios) and Adrian Loader (Engineer at FWO Bauch) were dissatisfied with the speakers that were commercially available at the time for both studio and home use.

They began designing their own, developing transmission line technology and after four prototypes created the first BB5 (big box version 5), which was promptly sold to the BBC. The rest is a history here for you to see...

TECHNOLOGY

INTRODUCTION

PMC was founded in the belief that there were many ways in which loudspeaker design could be improved - and better products aren't made by following the crowd. Off-the-shelf drivers, cabinets, and crossovers are commonplace in today's mass-produced world, but our reference monitors demand innovative, non-standard attention to detail to produce the low-distortion, high-resolution designs which have made our reputation.

That's why our cabinets are hand-built, the design of our drivers is unique to us, and our underlying technologies are patented, proprietary designs.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

At PMC, we believe that music is what really matters; it’s what moves us and gives us the passion for what we do.
