Demaine Partnership was founded in 1938 by Robert Demaine, FRIBA, MRAIA. Starting from an initial specialization in hospital design.
Demaine Partnership is committed to the production of high quality architecture. We interpret this objective in the broadest possible way, to encompass far more than aesthetic criteria but also to consider issues of fitness for purpose, sustainability, durability and innovation.
The practice provides full architecture, master planning, interior design, programming, building analysis and health planning services for clients in both the public and private sectors.
Demaine Partnership’s work has gained recognition through peer review and awards, but more importantly through ongoing, long term relationships with our valued clients.
PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of Demaine Partnership centres on technical and design excellence. Technical priorities include process management from briefing to final handover and beyond.
We place particular emphasis on meeting all the budget and schedule objectives of our projects, while achieving architectural excellence.
Our directors, together with a team of architects, are involved in the supervision and design of each project from the initial stages of planning through construction and post-construction.
We believe that good design emerges from accurately meeting our clients requirements. We achieve this through intensive dialogue, which continues throughout the building design and implementation process.
However we add further value to this process through independent research. We look for better solutions, and a number of patent applications for building technologies are testament to this commitment.
We also engage in debate in seeking new solutions to both emerging and existing building programs. The Ideas section of this website presents some of those concepts for consideration and, we hope, dialogue. Demaine Partnership’s design solutions are driven by the specifics of the brief, not a predetermined design style. We seek to create structures that fit with their environment, are functional, carefully crafted and aesthetically pleasing.

EXPERIENCE
Michael joined Demaine Partnership in 1995, becoming a partner in 1997, and brought extensive experience in the development of high quality commercial projects to the firm, which included work on the landmark 333 Collins Street project.
Michael has built on this achievement with development of an extensive portfolio of high end residential development, clubhouse design, luxury retirement facilities, urban design and high quality residential architecture.
Michael has also developed expertise in design for education facilities, health and aged care. Michael is a leader in the design of golf clubhouses, and is arguably the most experienced designer in Australia addressing this project type, and also has extensive knowledge of the design requirements underpinning successful retirement community and apartment design, winning several awards for projects in this sector.
Further work has involved sustainable urbanism including development of affordable housing adopting the Passivhaus methodology, which represents world's best practice in verifiable energy efficient building design.
