For more than 46 years it has been our mission to provide our customers with the best tool for cooking. Starting out in 1973 with only 18 employees, our success has been built on an unwaivering commitment to a shared goal of continually creating value for our customers.
Yet our company has never just been content with being a mechanical engineer. We see ourselves as an innovative solutions provider. Above all else, our utmost priority is to satisfy our customers. This vision has transformed RATIONAL into a global market and technology leader. As such, 140 million dishes are prepared daily around the world in RATIONAL units.
With over 1,000,000 RATIONAL units on the market, our cooking systems have become a standard in professional kitchens all over the world.
According to our 2018 Kantar TNS study, 98 % of our customers in the relevant German, British and US-American markets confirm that we are on the right track: they would recommend us.
100 % MADE IN EUROPE
RATIONAL units are produced at two locations: In Landsberg am Lech, Germany, the home of all combi-steamers and Wittenheim in France, where the iVario is developed and produced. To ensure that our customers receive a high-quality and perfectly functioning unit, four different employees check each RATIONAL unit before it is sent to the customer.
All of the company's technical departments coordinate their activities regularly to maintain and improve the quality of our products.
THE CHEFS’ COMPANY
The corporate philosophy is reflected in our approach to research and development. Physicists, food scientists, development engineers and experienced chefs all work together in our R & D team. This makes RATIONAL not only the company for professional chefs.
With over 250 professional chefs in its workforce, it is also the chef's company. Our application-centric organisation forms the powerful basis for RATIONAL unique innovative drive!
SUSTAINABILITY
PROVEN SUSTAINABILITY – FOR OVER 40 YEARS.
Since the company was established back in 1973, the principles of responsible and sustainable activity have been firmly rooted in RATIONAL. Whitefficiency® is our contribution to sustainability that begins right from product development. We work in close collaboration with universities to find solutions that save on resources.
Our commitment is reflected in our environmentally certified production and energy-efficient sales logistics, the intelligent low-energy efficient buildings, the regularly reviewed eco-audit according to DIN ISO 14001 and to the return and recycling of our old appliances. This makes RATIONAL a pioneer in sustainability for an entire industry.
SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN RESOURCE FOOTPRINT.
Our multi-functional cooking appliances contribute enormously to reducing the energy and resource footprint in industrial kitchens.
This is underpinned by the project commissioned by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences:
"34 % less electricity and 53 % less water consumption with a choice are all arguments for the use of multi-functional cooking appliances in professional kitchens".
With RATIONAL cooking technology, you save on energy, water and raw ingredients and produce significantly less waste. This innovative cooking technology delivers maximum flexibility and power and meets the highest standards in cooking quality. The results of the resource consumption analysis based on a before-after comparison speak for themselves: The cheapest form of energy is energy that we do not consume.
INTERNATIONAL CERTIFIED
We passionately care about the enviroment. Sustainable management is part of our daily routine, even in ecological view. We therefore continually review our energy and raw material consumption. In addition we have committed ourselves to meet the demands of the following ISO standards:
- Quality management system: since 1996 according to ISO 9001
We constantly improve our quality, streamline our processes and make them more efficient.
- Environmental management system: since 2010 according to ISO 14001
We constantly reduce our emissions and waste in order to be even more environmentally-friendly.
- Energy management system: since 2016 according to ISO 50001
We continuously improve our energy efficiency.
CORPORATE CARBON FOOTPRINT.
Due to our production and logistics which are environmentally certified and energy-efficient as well as the energy optimised buildings we constantly reduce our Corporate Carbon Footprint. By these means we have cut our CO₂ emissions in half over the last five years.

SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT
RATIONAL acts exclusively according to the principles of sustainable and profitable growth which is why our sustainable approach reflects ecological, economic and social aspects.
To demonstrate this continuous effort, RATIONAL is certified to ISO 14001 and is entitled to use the “Lean and Green” logo. "Lean and Green" is a cooperation between industry and consultancy which specialises in reducing the energy footprint in the processing industry. But despite all its success to date, RATIONAL still feels it has a long way to go before reaching its goal in terms of sustainable activity.
JÖRG WALTER.-CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER.
Jörg Walter was born in 1970 and is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of RATIONAL AG. After graduating as industrial engineer, Mr Walter held management positions in the commercial field at RÜTGERS AG and then ROTO Frank AG. Mr Walter joined RATIONAL in 2011 and until his appointment to the Executive Board was responsible for different commercial functions, especially the group-wide Controlling activities.
DR. PETER STADELMANN.-CHAIRMAN OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD (CEO).
Born in 1965, Dr. Peter Stadelmann is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RATIONAL AG. Following his degree in economics, Dr. Stadelmann completed his post doc in business management. He then joined the Malik Management Centre in St. Gallen, Switzerland. He held various managerial positions over his 20 years at the organisation. Between 2006 and 2012, he held the position of CEO over the entire Malik corporate group. Dr. Peter Stadelmann has been a member of the RATIONAL Executive Board since 2012. He was appointed to the position of CEO in January 2014.
PETER WIEDEMANN.-CHIEF TECHNICAL OFFICER
Born in 1959, Peter Wiedemann is the Chief Technical Officer and member of the Executive Board of RATIONAL AG. After gaining his mechanical engineering degree in 1988 Peter Wiedemann launched his professional career by joining RATIONAL as an engineer in 1988. He was appointed as a product manager just two years later. He was then massively involved in setting up the US subsidiary and took over as Chief Technical Officer in January 1996. In September 1999, he was appointed this responsibility as a member of the Executive Board.
MARKUS PASCHMANN.-CHIEF SALES & MARKETING OFFICER.
Born in 1966, Markus Paschmann is the Chief Sales & Marketing Officer (CSO) and member of the Executive Board of RATIONAL AG. After graduating in industrial engineering, Markus Paschmann launched his career at Siemens AG. He then joined the Harting Technologiegruppe to manage the Electronics Global Business Unit and was CEO. In 2006, he joined the Executive Board of Sick AG. Since December 2013, Mr. Markus Paschmann has been the Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at RATIONAL AG responsible for marketing and sales.
