Creating amazing water experiences is what we do every day at Methven, and have done since 1886. Today, Methven is world renowned for beautifully designed, award winning showers, taps and valves.
Over the years we have learned how to harness the power of water to cleanse, calm, refresh and invigorate. And it’s this expertise - combined with our passion for design and innovation - that fuels our ongoing mission to create amazing water experiences, just for you.
HISTORY
1886
Methven is founded, Methven is founded as an iron and brass foundry by Scottish born George Methven in Dunedin, New Zealand.
1896 -1945
- Begin manufacturing taps and copper laundry vessels.
- Manufacture ammunitions for the New Zealand Army.
1950 -1965
During the post-war building boom Methven focussed on tapware and valving products for New Zealand homes.Bought by McKechnie Bros PLC and Peglers Ltd.
1995
Launch of FastFlow®
A unique patented technology to solve unequal water pressure in homes.
1997 - 1998
Merged with fellow tapware manufacturer HMC to become Methven.Sold to MCK Group Pty Ltd.
2001 - 2003
Methven Nefa valve range certified and launched in Australia. Methven acquires 60% of Flexispray, an independent Australian shower company that has supplied Methven shower fittings since 1992.AMP Capital backs a management buy-out of Methven from MCK Group.
2004 - LAUNCH OF SATINJET®
The luxurious shower experience that uses colliding twin jets of water.Methven lists on the NZ Stock Exchange.Methven tapware launches in Australia.
2006 - 2007
- 2006 : Methven (Xiamen) Trading Co Ltd established in China.
- 2007: Launch of Kiri Satinjet showers and tapware a new benchmark in design.Methven acquires The Deva Tap Company Ltd one of the UK’s largest independent shower and tapware suppliers.
2008
Tahi Satinjet shower system launches
Beautifully designed to suit any shower environment.Methven Australia new office and showroom opens
