ABOUT
INTRODUCTION
INC is an open source, multi-disciplinary, architecture and design studio, with experience in a wide range of project types from big to small that specializes in the integration of the design disciplines. We approach a chair, a room and a super structure all equally.
We posit that good ideas can come from anywhere and unlock the creative process to inspiration from our collaborators and the world outside our studio.
A tripartite leadership structure guides our projects from conception to completion and balances the three essential elements of successful design: joy, utility and craft.
At INC to lead is to listen and thus each project is a unique portrait imbued with the aspirations of our clientele, be they an individual or a segment of the population. Based in New York, INC works globally and takes a global view by implementing environmental best practices naturally.
FEATURES
SOCIAL CONTEXTUAL-ISM
At INC “context is king”. We propose that good design can be driven by the social, cultural, physical and historical context of a project. We assert that a project can legitimately take its place in the environment of a city or in the heart of its user by creating a meaningful dialogue with its physical and cultural conditions.
CURTAINS TO CURTAIN WALLS
We are a multi-disciplinary architecture and design studio, with experience in a wide range of project types, from big to small, specializing in the integration of the design disciplines. Having executed residential buildings, hotels, restaurants, galleries, stores and private residences, we approach a chair, a room and a super structure all equally from tables to towers, embracing the constraints of each as the seeds of inspiration for their development.
PORTRAIT ARTISTS
We affirm that to lead is to listen hence each of our projects is a unique portrait imbued with the aspirations of our clientele, be they an individual or a segment of the population. Portraiture is a metaphor for how we interact with our clients, by approaching each project as an individual subject with distinctive attributes to be focused through our design lens, we fashion tailored designs that capture the distinctive desires of the end user.
GLOBAL POSITIONING
Based in New York, Incorporated works globally and takes a global environmental view by implementing best practices naturally, not as an afterthought, with all three principals LEED certified. With completed projects at diverse scales and in urban to rural contexts around the globe, we are uniquely qualified to lead a variety of complex projects, incorporating green solutions appropriately.
OPEN SOURCE
We are an open source design studio where all ideas are created equal but only the strongest survive; thus unlocking the creative process to inspiration from our clientele and the world outside our studio. We thoughtfully filter the information and ideas that flow through our open studio, allowing only the strongest ideas to survive, and thus bringing a refined aesthetic to a wide range of project types.
US IS MORE
Many heads are better than one. Our practice emerges from more than a decade of collective knowledge power, which we access through a live, shared, virtual archive. Through a carefully maintained library of materials, ideas, details, products, and know-how, we approach challenges in unexpected ways, translate successful solutions between contexts, and enrich our projects through shared information.
PARTNERS
THE UNWHOLLY TRINITY
Conceived as a singular intensely collaborative studio, INC is the brainchild of Adam Rolston, Gabe Benroth, and Drew Stuart. Dedicated to an integrated vision for the architectural and design disciplines, these three creatives shepherd every INC project,
Big or small, from beginning to end, with a passionate hands-on engagement that brings their respective talents and interests to bear. The inspiration, functionality and technique required at each phase of the design, construction and fabrication process is provided by their distinct but complementary gifts.
This “team-of-interdisciplinary-specialists” approach, informs the culture and structure of the studio, where an “expert” is always within reach. Adam keeps an eye on the big picture, from 30,000 feet and down to earth, making sure that the sum is always greater than its parts.
Gabe wants to leverage the power of technology in the studio, to build a better world outside it. For Drew the DNA is in the details that turn a good idea into a great design. Together they are on a mission to fashion objects, spaces and buildings that are deeply connected to their social and cultural contexts. As they like to say…..design for humans.
